{"id":948,"date":"2026-04-27T10:31:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T10:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesssinglesmeet.com\/?p=948"},"modified":"2026-04-28T15:55:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T15:55:20","slug":"london-waste-crime-gang-jailed-after-illegal-dumping-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/businesssinglesmeet.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/27\/london-waste-crime-gang-jailed-after-illegal-dumping-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"London waste crime gang jailed after illegal dumping investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-beyondwords-marker=\"57e957ff-041c-437b-bed9-20b964f3ab10\" data-beyondwords-player=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h4><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-612442 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Waste crime\" width=\"860\" height=\"516\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/s960_Op_Angola_2.jpg?resize=860%2C516&amp;ssl=1\"><\/h4>\n<h4>A London waste crime gang has been jailed for conspiracy to illegally dump controlled waste across six sites in the capital.<\/h4>\n<p>An Environment Agency investigation found that the group carried out a \u2018sophisticated and calculated\u2019 criminal operation.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the gang unlawfully occupied six vacant sites across London before using tipper trucks to dump waste on the land.<\/p>\n<p>Despite repeated attempts to disable CCTV equipment and conceal their identities by removing registration plates, wearing masks, stripping identifying labels from waste, nearby cameras, council CCTV, and police body-worn footage captured the gang\u2019s activities in detail.<\/p>\n<p>The gang of four men were found guilty at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court of conspiracy to illegally dump controlled waste, such as tyres and waste from house clearances and construction, following a pattern of offending that spanned a year.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Doherty was given a 28-month prison sentence, and Martin Ward received 18 months. Michael Ward (also known as Martin McCann) and Simon O\u2019Donnell both received 14 months, suspended for 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Higginson, Environment Manager for the Environment Agency, commented: \u201cThis verdict is justice for residents who have had to endure misery and environmental damage at the hands of this gang.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are laser focused on tackling illegal waste crime and are stepping up action with better intelligence, faster interventions and naming and shaming rogue operators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Landowners were left with clean-up bills running into hundreds of thousands of pounds following the gang\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n<p>At Imperial Way in Croydon, the landowner was forced to pay \u00a3300,000 in clean-up costs after the gang smashed security cameras and threatened a company representative.<\/p>\n<p>The Environment Agency said that members of the gang threatened a site worker at a separate location, telling them to pay \u00a35,000 or threatening to \u2018fill this unit to the brim\u2019.
